Standards & Engineering Services

Setting The Standards Since 1880

Access ASME’s standards and engineering services for pressure technology, power, construction, nuclear components, and more.

Find Your Standards

ASME develops widely recognized codes and standards to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency in engineering and industrial applications.

A17 INTERPS - Elevator and Escalator Interpretations

The ASME A17 series outlines safety standards for the design, construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of elevators, escalators, and related equipment.

ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC)

The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) sets standard for the design, construction, and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels.

B31 Power Piping B31.1 - 2024

The ASME B31 series sets standards for the design, construction, and inspection of various piping systems, including power, process, fuel gas, and refrigeration piping.

ASME Y14 | Y14 Standards

The ASME Y14 series sets standards for engineering drawings, model based definitions , including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, ensuring clear communication and accuracy in product design at all levels.

India International Working Groups (IWG)

International Working Groups are an extension of ASME Standards Subcommittees outside of U.S. IWGs consist of Codes & Standards practitioners who have the ability and passion to contribute to their improvement to enhance their utilization and alignment with in-country regulations.

About ASME International Working Groups(IWG)

IWG promotes global participation, adoption, and advancement of ASME standards while supporting
professional growth and recognition

Objectives

The IWG aims to increase global participation in ASME committees, engaging technical experts from different countries. It promotes the understanding and adoption of ASME codes worldwide while ensuring updates align with local technical and regulatory needs. Additionally, it provides career growth opportunities through ASME resources and recognizes individuals for their contributions to ASME standards.

Introduction

ASME codes and standards are developed through a structured process involving Section and Technical Committees. These committees operate under the ASME Standards Committee and various ASME Boards, such as the Board of Pressure Technology Codes and Standards (BPTCS) and the Board of Nuclear Codes and Standards (BNCS). The development process follows ANSI-accredited procedures to ensure consensus, public review, and approval.

Committee Structure

The ASME Code Committee structure consists of three main types of committees:

IWG Charter

The IWG reviews and comments on proposed ASME code changes, initiating necessary updates where required. It conducts activities in line with ASME policies and coordinates efforts with parent committees and ASME staff to ensure smooth implementation.

Currently Active IWGs in India

India's IWGs contribute to ASME standards, addressing local
needs and global code development.

ASME NQA-1 – Nuclear Quality Assurance
ASME Y14 – Rules for Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
ASME BPVC Section VIII – Design and Construction of Pressure Vessels
ASME BPVC Section XI – In service Inspection of Nuclear Power Plants
